2025 International Roadcheck Results Are In: What It Means for Trucking Fleets
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has released the results of the 2025 International Roadcheck, held May 13–15 across North America. During this 72-hour inspection blitz, 56,178 commercial vehicles and drivers were inspected throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. This year’s focus: Driver Records of Duty Status (RODS) and Tire Condition — two critical factors in preventing crashes and ensuring compliance.Key Results & Insights
- 56,178 inspections conducted across North America.
- Driver focus: Hours-of-service accuracy, ELD records, and valid credentials.
- Vehicle focus: Tire tread depth, inflation, and damage.
- Top out-of-service reasons: Brake system defects, tire violations, and false log entries. The results show that non-compliance with RODS and poor tire maintenance remain major causes of out-of-service orders. These violations not only lead to fines and downtime—but also affect insurance premiums and CSA safety scores.
What Fleets Should Do Next
- Audit ELD & Logs: Ensure all drivers’ RODS are accurate and complete.
- Inspect Tires Weekly: Check pressure, tread depth, and sidewall integrity.
- Maintain Records: Keep updated driver qualifications and maintenance logs.
- Train Drivers: Review how to handle inspections and log edits properly.
- Stay Ahead of Changes: CVSA’s updated out-of-service criteria (effective April 2025) include stricter rules on tires and documentation.
